Steel Blue PENGUIN, hammered with a hot flame on the anvil

Once more Cosé has been captured by the implications of Global Warming: this time he imagined what the future would be for penguins – this graceful and touching animal that has the poles as its playground – because at this very moment they are losing their habitat.

After having researched about ways and techniques of metal polishing, Cosé created, quite intuitively, a constructivist image of a penguin, hammered with a hot flame, from recycled steel. He polished it in two different ways and finished it with a blowlamp, to evoke a contrast between breast and back, from high gloss at the breast to blue shades at the back.

In the end he created a group, and he would always put them on the little oval shapes of steel, that can be understood as the melting water beneath their feet...

From the start of the project Cosé had a name for an installation of penguins: ‘Buscando el eco’ (‘Looking for the echo’ in English) referring to the child game he used to play with his friends, which consisted in letting sound echo to the mountains of his village. But this time we’re not talking about mountains but glaciers and icebergs that are in fact disappearing.

The price is for one steel Penguin.
We will also list a PAIR of Penguins (which would be a powerful wedding present as they represent eternal love).
And if you are interested in a group please let us know, and we’ll inform you about the adjusted price.

Material: tempered steel
Measures: every penguin is a one of a kind so measures are approx.: H 14 ½” x W 5 ½” x D 7 1/16”. (H 37 x W 14 x D 18 cm)
Techniques: (hot) hammering on the anvil, welding, polishing, heat coloring
Colors: The colors are the natural colors of steel after sanding, polishing and after heat treatment, and go from blue to dark gray and shiny metal
